Definition

The approximated amount of a food (and its nutrients) that a consumer may ingest. It is calculated through indirect means such as national balance sheets, household economic surveys, and similar methods that do not collect food intake information directly from individuals but through secondary analysis of reports of food availability, access, and acquisition. The results can be expressed as per capita or, if assuming intake proportional to energy requirement, per adult male equivalent
