Legal system

  • Law, policy, and regulation
  • Legal system

Definition

The main elements to identify the functioning of a legal system are its legal family, constitution, actors and the actions they undertake and the legal documents they create.

The legal system in a country takes its cue from the legal family that it is a part of and its constitution. Not only do these two issues—legal families and constitutions—feed into the legal system of a particular country, but the legal system also feeds into these two issues forming a somewhat symbiotic relationship facilitating the structure of the legal system. The legal actors and the documents that they create provide the substance of the legal system.
