This lexicon is a central repository of terms with definitions used in micronutrient programs, with particular focus on large-scale food fortification and its governance. The definitions in this lexicon were compiled through a literature search, followed by a consensus-driven approach to establish a single, authoritative definition for each term. The lexicon was created to harmonize terminology in a living document that stakeholders within the field can consistently reference.
Along with the lexicon, a 17-page primer on public law and regulation for non-lawyers is available. This primer was developed to ensure terminological consistency and provide clarity on terms related to law, policy, and regulation. At the end of the primer, a 3-page appendix is included as a quick-reference guide for those working in food, health, and nutrition.
To use the lexicon, type a key word into the search box or apply filters to sort terms by category. Click on a term’s name or the “View full definition” button to see its complete information, including explanation, examples, related terms, and references.
Terms covered in the primer are categorized under “law, policy, and regulation” and are further organized into subcategories such as “legal actors,” “legal documents,” and more. These categories can be used to filter the terms specific to legal, policy, and regulatory aspects of large-scale food fortification.
